It’s been rocky – scenes from the movie included. My easel went upside down, the way many of our lives have, and righting it has been a heft and a push.

When word of the coronavirus spread, thoughts of social distancing, sheltering in place and staying put in a studio felt like the best thing to ever do. Weren’t we so lucky? But like a fog rolling in, clear direction clouded over, and attention shifted elsewhere.

Gotta do this, gotta do that. Things got skewed, like the feeling that turning around in a tunnel has obscured the way out. Then late Spring, protests erupted and emotions ran raw over a string of police actions that left Black men dead.

Whole groups of people were challenged to self-examine in conversations that are invited to continue into the foreseeable future. And, the reach for expression leads back to the studio.
