Since we had to postpone our first art show—The Union—we’ve decided to turn this into an opportunity to digitally showcase all the artists who’d submitted to the show. We’ve asked the artists to write about their experiences during this extraordinatry time—how they’re feeling and coping, or what kind of work has the self-quarantine and social distancing inspired?
In the days leading up to Art Clout’s first show I was hoping and praying we would be allowed to exhibit our work before a quarantine order was imposed…but alas that was not to be. As disappointing as the news was, there is now plenty of time to create and wait for the opportunity to showcase my work for the first time alongside with multiple gifted artists!
Since things are in a state of constant flux, and anxieties and fear are heightened I am so grateful for the escape that art brings—now more than ever. I’ve created more pieces in a shorter amount of time than ever before, commissions and work just for my own enjoyment—a true luxury that isn’t always possible amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I finally had the time to create my own small business (johnniegirl.com), that had simply been too daunting of a task before the stay at home order was implemented.
There is surely joy hidden amongst the plain and chaos we are collectively experiencing, and for me that is directly tied to the ability to create, to draw, write, sketch, paint, and share that with others. Every time I can feel hopelessness tipping the scales in its favor (my fiancée and I were supposed to be getting married in 2 months and that seems a bit unrealistic now), I take comfort in being able to turn my mind off and make something beautiful, and feel very blessed to be able to do so. I love that people can connect, find inspiration share with one another through ArtClout, at least for me it has been a very big blessing. I’m praying for everyone suffering through this mess, and am hopeful that art and artists will continue to lighten spirits in any way they can through their talents and ideas!
